thyssenkrupp CEO: Making openness and inclusiveness more perceptible
On October 12, 2025, the 37th International Business Leaders’ Advisory Council for the Mayor of Shanghai (IBLAC) was held. thyssenkrupp’s CEO, Miguel López, attended the meeting and contributed his insights on Shanghai’s development.
This year’s theme was “Openness, Innovation, Inclusiveness — Shanghai’s Development Strategy Toward 2030.” Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining and Deputy Party Secretary and Mayor Gong Zheng expressed their gratitude to business leaders for their long-term support of the city’s development and welcomed more international enterprises to invest and grow in Shanghai, sharing opportunities and achieving win-win outcomes.
Mr. López said: “Every time I come to Shanghai, I can feel the city taking new steps forward in openness and innovation. Multinational corporations are also accelerating their pace to better serve the Chinese market. Against the backdrop of rising global uncertainties, how to make Shanghai’s openness and inclusiveness more perceptible is a common concern shared by many multinationals.”
This year, thyssenkrupp’s proposal to Shanghai centered on the theme: “Creating a Perceptible Open Environment and Building a Model International City of the Future”. The key recommendations included: Continuously opening up and optimizing the business environment, especially in the diversified adoption and application of new technologies; Strengthening IP protection more efficiently through cross-regional collaboration; Benchmarking against other world-class international cities to explore a “Smart Professional Services+” model; and Enhancing Shanghai’s international appeal and urban attractiveness through stronger soft power.
In a closed-door meeting with Shanghai’s municipal leaders, Mr. López also engaged in in-depth and pragmatic discussions on how to further advance Shanghai’s high-quality development characterized by greater openness and inclusiveness.
In an interview with CCTV following the event, Mr. López stated: “For multinational corporations, China is an extremely important market. It is home to a wealth of innovative talent and represents a vital part of the global supply chain. That is why we remain committed to the Chinese market.”
