Top ranking since eight yeards: thyssenkrupp a global leader in climate protection

thyssenkrupp has once again received international recognition for its outstanding performance in the area of climate protection: For the eighth time in a row, the well-known non-profit environmental organization CDP has attested that thyssenkrupp is one of the world’s leading companies based on the data reported in the CDP Climate Change 2023 questionnaire. The CDP acknowledged thyssenkrupp’s transparency and effective climate protection measures, awarding the company the highest score and again including it on the prestigious “Climate Change A List”. The CDP rating underscores thyssenkrupp’s commitment to making a significant contribution to decarbonization and actively promoting the transition to a climate-friendly economy.

Miguel López, CEO of thyssenkrupp AG, commented: “We’re making thyssenkrupp a pioneer of the green transformation and thus helping to transform many industries worldwide. The result of the CDP rating corroborates our strategy and our goal of sustainably reducing emissions and reporting on that with the utmost transparency. We are delighted at capturing the highest rating for the eighth time in a row and receiving confirmation that we are on the right track.”

Ilse Henne from thyssenkrupp AG’s Executive Board noted: “We are determined to maintain this quality in the future. thyssenkrupp has therefore decided to set itself more ambitious climate targets that are in line with limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees and has submitted its commitment to do so to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). thyssenkrupp will again have its new climate targets validated by the SBTi in 2024.”

thyssenkrupp is one of 346 companies internationally on the CDP’s 2023 “Climate Change A List”, which includes 16 companies from Germany. CDP conducts its annual rating, among other things on behalf of over 740 financial institutions with over 136 trillion US dollars in assets.

A pioneer of the green transformation, thyssenkrupp is actively leading the way when it comes to protecting the climate. The company is working apace to make carbon-intensive production processes transparent and, above all, to replace them with climate-friendly technologies. One example of that is the construction of the first hydrogen-capable direct reduction plant at the Duisburg site – one of the world’s largest industrial decarbonization projects – as part of the transformation toward climate-neutral steel production.

In addition, thyssenkrupp supports its customers in achieving their climate targets. The recently established Decarbon Technologies segment plays a key role in that. It pools the key technologies for enabling the expansion of wind energy, green hydrogen and green ammonia, a transport medium for green hydrogen and green cement.
