Meet three employees who are helping shape the future

Ding Xiaorui can identify defects by touch. He learnt at the start of his apprenticeship
that the surface of the steel has to be perfect. “You can also see the defects and of
course measure them,” says the apprentice surface inspector, who has been on a
work experience year with Shanghai Krupp Stainless (SKS) since May.

Honors and big plans

Ding, 18, spent three years at the vocational training center in Shanghai, a
collaboration between the Shanghai education authorities and the German
Hans-Seidel Foundation. He won several competitions at vocational school and was honored as a “model student”. He says he has always been interested in technology. For the next few years he wants to stay at SKS and continue to learn. For knowledge is the most important thing for this ambitious young man’s future.

Focused on the future

Ding learned early that you have to work for everything in life. Like many young men,
he dreams of one day owning a “baoma” – a BMW. At the moment he still cycles to
the basketball court in the evening to meet friends. Ding is working and learning hard to fulfill his dreams for the future. And for that he is prepared to get up early every morning and take the bus across the city.
